Abracadabra

She hated being the center of attention, she would really much rather stand near the coat rack at parties then mingle with strangers. Perhaps if she had just stuck with that idea she wouldn’t be in this situation now. Standing up she inched her way through the applauding crowd muttering meek apologies for stepping on toes and fighting a furious blush as she almost landed herself in one poor gentleman’s lap, earning her a cheeky remark and earning the maker a slap from his escort. Cursing her friends she found herself stumbling onto the stage, bright lights burning her eyes as a perky redhead in sequins held her arm and smiled her plastic face at her. “Let’s give it up for our volunteer!” A thick accent boomed behind her. Vaguely she wondered where it originated, and then upon deciding that it probably wasn’t real in the first place became terrifyingly aware of her new surroundings. It was a box, but not just any box, it was a large box fitted with two separate opening compartments painted a friendly robin’s egg blue with gold accents. She felt her stomach hit the floor and flee screaming from the theater. A rough pull on her arm and the plastic redhead lead her to the back of the box, opening it up with a quick snap of the latch. “Alright Hun” plastic words said through plastic teeth “Kneel on top of that divider then and smile pretty!” Another snap and her head was peeking through the cutout at the gaping audience. There was a creaking sound muffled beneath her legs as she watched her friend’s wave from their seats. The gasp of the crowd hid the crack of the thin wood as her legs hit the bottom of the second chamber. She made no sound as the first blade slid its way in, after all, she wouldn’t want to ruin the show for everyone.
